Why FetchBreed

No breed-bashing, no sugar-coating. We publish real temperament tradeoffs, honest health predispositions, and true cost ranges — sourced and methodology-linked — so you can match a breed to your actual life, not a marketing photo.

253+ dog breeds

From the Labrador Retriever to rare Foundation Stock breeds — structured trait profiles for size, energy, grooming, shedding, and more.

429+ comparisons

The genuinely cross-shopped pairs people actually search — Labrador vs Golden Retriever, Ragdoll vs Maine Coon, and hundreds more.

Why we built a database, not a listicle

Search "best dog breed for apartments" and you'll find a dozen nearly-identical articles, each repeating the same twelve breeds with the same soft-focus descriptions. None of them tell you the actual weight range, the real shedding rating, or a defensible monthly cost estimate — because they're not built on structured data, just recycled prose. FetchBreed starts from the opposite direction: every breed carries a real trait table (size, energy, grooming, shedding, trainability, vocalization, compatibility with kids and other pets) sourced from published breed standards and veterinary/behavioral literature, with the sourcing basis documented on our methodology page.

That structured foundation is what makes the rest of the site possible: 29 group hubs organized by real AKC/CFA classification, 66 trait-based lists (hypoallergenic, low-shedding, best with kids, and more) computed directly from the trait data rather than hand-curated guesses, and comparison pages where the "key differences" section is calculated from actual numeric gaps between two breeds, not asserted from memory. If a claim appears on this site, there's a real number behind it.

Frequently asked questions

How is FetchBreed different from a breeder's website?

We're not selling any specific breed. Every profile is written to be honest about downsides — shedding, health predispositions, exercise needs — not just the flattering parts, and we don't accept payment to feature or rank a breed favorably.

Should I adopt instead of buying a purebred?

Often, yes — shelters and breed-specific rescues have wonderful dogs and cats of every breed and mix. We link adoption/rescue considerations throughout the site rather than only pointing to breeders.

Is the health information here veterinary advice?

No. Breed pages describe common, breed-associated health predispositions for educational purposes only — always consult a licensed veterinarian for your specific pet.

What's the fastest way to narrow down a breed?

Take the free breed selector quiz for an instant, explainable shortlist, or get the paid Breed Match Report for a deeper, human-reviewed version delivered by email.
