Both trace back to spitz-type working stock, but at very different scales and social settings. The Husky pulled sleds in teams, which built a dog that's genuinely pack-social with people and other dogs and prone to roaming if fencing isn't secure. The Shiba hunted alone in Japanese mountain terrain, and that solitary history left it smaller, more reserved, and considerably less interested in constant company.

Both sheds heavily during seasonal coat blows from their thick double coats, though the Husky's larger frame simply produces more volume to manage.
