Which one should you choose?
The most obvious difference is respiratory: the Pug's flat face brings genuine heat-tolerance and breathing concerns that require careful management, especially in warm weather, while the Cavapoo's more typical muzzle sidesteps that risk from the start. The tradeoff runs the other way on grooming, where the Cavapoo's curlier coat needs far more regular brushing and trimming than the Pug's wash-and-wear short coat.
Both dogs are affectionate and eager to be near their people, though the Pug is the more famously sedentary of the two, perfectly happy dozing away most of the afternoon, while the Cavapoo wants a bit more play and short activity bursts. Both are excellent with children and adapt well to smaller living spaces.
Choose the Cavapoo if a bit more playfulness fits your household and the grooming upkeep doesn't deter you. Choose the Pug if an even calmer, simpler-coated companion appeals more, and you're committed to careful heat and airway monitoring.
